Huanglian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Southwest Fujian near Jiangxi. The Huanglian Fm was named by the Fujian Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale in 1979. The typical section is located in Huanglian village 11 km southwest of Changting City, Fujian Province.
Lithology and Thickness
The formation is dominated by gray and gray-white bedded chert intercalated with greenish-gray banded chert, phyllite, slate and thin-bedded meta-sandstone. The clastic rocks have horizontal beddings and the chert layers show occasional ripple marks of shallow water. The total thickness varies from 260 to 360 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It rests conformably on the underlying Nanyan Fm. These two formations always occur together.
Upper contact
Underlies lower Cambrian according to schematic stratigraphy chart; but previous Lexicon said it is unconformably overlain by Devonian.
Regional extent
Southwest Fujian.
